IH Brisbane – ALS is an English Language College, with courses to suit any need, and is registered to offer programs to international students.

We teach English over six levels from Beginner to Advanced, so you can be sure you will be placed in the correct level, with students with a similar level of English.

We use the most up-to-date teaching methods and equipment, so you can be sure you are receiving the best that is currently available. Australian materials are combined with materials from England, the United States and Canada, to give students a well-rounded knowledge of accents and the different variations of English you can find the world over.

Our teachers are all qualified and experienced, often having taught in many different countries. We have specialist teachers who are able to help you get ready for the IELTS or Cambridge exams, fill a gap in your business vocabulary and even master your pronunciation issues.

Your timetable will be explained fully in the orientation session on your first day, but IH Brisbane – ALS students must study 20 hours a week, but you can study up to 29 hours per week!

There are 4 main elements to your classes: Core classes, Skill classes, Speak More and Friday Options. Speak More and Friday Options are optional – but the more you come to the more you can improve!

Your Core class and your Skills class:

Core classes

Skills classes

  • Keep the same teacher, until you move class (about every 6 weeks)
  • Cover all the skill areas – Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, as well as focussing on improving your Grammar, Vocabulary and Pronunciation.
  • Follow a set coursebook
  • Focus on developing your language skills
  • Have homework to complete!

  • Have different students to your core class – so you can expand your friends!
  • Change teachers regularly – so you can experience a range of teaching styles and hear a variety of accents
  • Are individual lessons – classes will be related by topic, but not follow on from each other
  • Focus on a specific skill area during each lesson – so you can concentrate on improving one element at a time (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, Grammar, Vocabulary or Pronunciation)
  • Have material taken from lots of places, and from the IH network
  • Focus on activating your language skills – so you have the skill to do well in Australia!
